I was taking a break. I had fired off a few blogs and been on my computer for a few hours doing things and I was ready to shut it and grab a snack. But then, Le’Veon Bell fell from the sky with this absurd statement and I knew I needed to get back at it. Sometimes these blogs just write themselves…
Anyway, it’s Thursday. The Pittsburgh Steelers are getting ready to play the Jacksonville Jaguars in a playoff game on Sunday. Yet, Le’Veon Bell is answering questions about next year and his contract situation. He went as far as to confirm that he would sit out a season or retire if the Steelers were to slap him with the franchise tag for the second straight year.
“I hope it doesn’t come to that, but I would definitely consider it,” Bell told the media before practice today. When he was asked what the Steelers should do this offseason he said simply, “value me.”
“Just get the numbers straight exactly where we want them. I’m not going to settle for anything. I know what I do and what I bring to the table. I’m not going out here getting the ball 400 times if I’m not getting what I feel I’m valued at,” Bell went on.
If he did sit out next season, Bell thinks he would “probably be done” with football. But on the other hand, if Pitt does not tag him and let’s him go to free agency, Bell said he would “explore and test the market.” So, let me ask, why exactly does Bell think the Steelers would let one of the best running backs in the game just walk?
He also went on to say “football is kind of like my job” and stressed that he doesn’t need it to be happy. He remarked that he’s made the money he feels he needed to and his family would be good if he walked away. Okay, so then if it isn’t about the money, you just don’t want to play football it seems.
Bell kept going about the uncertain future of the “Killer B’s” (meaning himself, Antonio Brown, Ben Roethlisberger and Martavis Bryant), being valued, and “leaving a legacy by running a different way than everybody else.” This guy totally sounds like a great teammate and locker room presence. He’s focused on winning for sure!
This is typical Steelers bullshit. For all of their talent they are divas who can’t stay out of their own way. I honestly can’t wait for them to lose and I hope they hit Bell with the franchise tag and he has to put his money where his mouth is. Let’s see if he actually has the balls to sit out or retire.
*I should love this because it just shows how weak minded this team is and how they will unravel, but it frustrates me still to see guys be flat out dumb like this.
