According to multiple reports, Madison Bumgarner has fractured his hand. Bumgarner was hit by a line drive in Cactus League action today, resulting in him leaving the game. Now we know just how bad the injury is, and San Francisco will start the season without their ace.

Obviously this a big blow for the Giants. After a bad season last year, the Giants revamped their roster by getting players like Andrew McCutchen and Evan Longoria. They were looking to get back into the postseason.

Now this injury may or may not change that, because the season hasn’t started yet. But to lose your opening day starter and your ace just six days away from opening day? Terrible blow.

And Bumgarner makes baseball more exciting when he steps to the plate and hits home runs. It’s a big loss for both the Giants and baseball until he comes back healthy and at the usual elite caliber.
