UFC 225 Preview: Tune in for the best fight card of this year

UFC 225 has so much excitement surrounding it, most of the fights on the card could headline a fight night card on its own. Holly Holm Vs. Megan Anderson, Tai Tuivasa Vs. Andrei Arlovski, Curtis Blaydes Vs. Alistair Overeem, Joseph Benavidez Vs. Sergio Pettis, Clay Guida Vs. Charles Oliveira, Carla Esparza Vs. Claudia Gadelha and Mirsad Bektic Vs. Ricardo Lamas could all headline a Fight Night and those fights are all ahead of the two title fights of the Evening. It’s just a crazy card that should deliver exciting fights throughout the night. There is only one thing that can damper the night for MMA Hardcore Fans and that just happens to be the first fight on the main card.

Welterweight: CM Punk (+180) Vs. Mike Jackson (-210)

Hardcore MMA Fans are going to be thinking “What the Fuck is this shithead CM Punk doing on the Main card of a PPV when killers like Ricardo Lamas, Joseph Benavidez, and Alistair Overeem are on the undercard?” but the UFC is an entertainment business, the UFC doesn’t care who buys the PPV, so why not bait WWE fans into thinking that Punk has a chance against Mike Jackson. Punk’s coach Duke Roufus has stated that Punk’s growth as a Mixed Martial Artist has been incredible, but he said that as he went into his fight with Mickey Gall as well, and we saw how that ended up. Mike Jackson Def. CM Punk

Heavyweight: Tai Tuivasa (-225) Vs. Andrei Arlovski (+190)

Tai Tuivasa has all the momentum in the world at the moment. He is 7-0 and in all 7 fights, he won by either TKO or KO in the first round. Tai is a great Mixed Martial Artist, however, he is a bit of a one-trick. He sticks to striking with all of his opponents and stated that his favorite grappling technique is the “Get Up”. If Arlovski has a good gameplan he can easily take the victory against someone who has never seen the second round. I’m going to pick Andrei Arlovski because I think he’ll be smart enough to see that Tuivasa will probably tire out if you get him to the later rounds, Tai has also never fought outside of Australia so the travel time might be problematic. Andrei Arlovski Def. Tai Tuivasa

Women’s Featherweight: Megan Anderson (+180) Vs. Holly Holm (-210)

Holly Holm is very close to being placed in James “Buster” Douglas territory. For those of you who do not know, Buster Douglas was a heavyweight boxer who pulled the biggest upset in boxing by defeating the Heavyweight Champion Mike Tyson and took the belt from him. However, Douglas was unable to capitalize on his success and did not successfully defend the belt. Holm’s Mike Tyson was Ronda Rousey. She defeated Rousey and then lost 4 of her next 5 fights. Megan Anderson is another Australian Import, however, unlike Tuivasa, Anderson has been living and training in the USA for quite a while. Her striking has also improved tenfold since she started working with James Krause. Holly Holm has gone 4-4 since joining the UFC and her only finishing technique in those wins has been a head kick, Anderson will not be hit with a head kick. Also, Anderson is a natural Featherweight while Holm is a natural Bantamweight. I’m picking my second upset in a row. Megan Anderson Def. Holly Holm

Welterweight: Rafael Dos Anjos (+104) Vs. Colby Covington (-124)

I’m very surprised by these odds, I was expecting Rafael dos Anjos to be at least a -150 favorite. RDA has looked like an absolute worldbeater since his move up to Welterweight defeating tough customers in Tarec Saffiedine and Neil Magny before his impressive title eliminator win over Robbie Lawler. When he was a lightweight, he was still defeating the creme de la creme of the division, up until he took on upper echelon fighters such as Tony Ferguson or Khabib Nurmagomedov. My feeling is that his weight-cut wore him down too much so his move to welterweight was necessary. Colby Covington is a little bit larger than RDA, so that might be why the odds are in his favor. Kamaru Usman said it best “Other than Demian Maia who has he beaten, No one” Covington is in this spot because he is great at pissing people off. Wherever he goes, he insults the crowd, first the people of Brazil, now the City of Chicago and it’s sports teams. If RDA defeats Colby Covington, the crowd will cheer tremendously because no one wants “the douche” Colby Covington to win. I’ve got RDA winning this fight. Even though he is smaller than Colby, he should be able to negate Covington’s wrestling skills and be able to pick him apart on the feet. Rafael Dos Anjos Def. Colby Covington

Middleweight Robert Whittaker (-220) Vs. Yoel Romero (+185)

Romero just missed weight so this fight may not happen. Regardless it will not be a title fight and Yoel Romero will not be able to win the belt. Robert Whittaker has won his last 7 fights at Middleweight, the last of which is his current opponent Yoel Romero. Yoel Romero looked absolutely gassed in his last attempt weighing in and I feel as if his fatigue will make it easier for Robert Whittaker to take the pressure to Yoel. Also, Robert Whittaker won their first fight with a fucked up knee suffered in the first round, so that’s a good sign for Whittaker’s chance to win. War Bobby Knuckles. Robert Whittaker Def. Yoel Romero

Other Selections:

Heavyweight: Curtis Blaydes (-180) Def. Alistair Overeem (+155)

Women’s Strawweight: Claudia Gadelha (-520) Def. Carla Esparza (+405)

Featherweight: Ricardo Lamas (+205) Def. Mirsad Bektic (-240)

Heavyweight: Rashad Coulter (-175) Def. Chris de la Rocha (+150)

Light Heavyweight: Anthony Smith (-300) Def. Rashad Evans (+250)

Flyweight: Joseph Benavidez (-250) Def. Sergio Pettis (+210)

Lightweight: Charles Oliveira (-145) Def. Clay Guida (+125)

Featherweight: Mike Santiago (+118) Def. Dan Ige (-138)
