In a move that surprised no one? Or did it surprise people? LeBron James announced last night during the Red Sox Yankees game that he plan on signing with the Los Angeles Lakers. Magic Johnson landed his superstar and courted him to L.A. This is a big move by LeBron and it affects the whole NBA on a lot of different levels.
For starters, the Boston Celtics are now the favorites in the Eastern Conference, followed by the Sixers and then the Raptors IMO. In the Western Conference, many people are expecting LeBron to take the Lakers to the top. With this signing, the Lakers are 7-2 odds in winning the NBA Championship next year, behind the Golden State Warriors.
I am surprised LeBron decided to go to the Lakers. I mean…Kawhi Leonard HAS to be coming over in a deal right? After the dream in LA of having Lebron, Kawhi and Paul George all together in LA after George announced he was going back to the Oklahoma City Thunder, I thought Lebron and the Lakers didn’t mix anymore. So one would think the Lakers are doing everything in their power to get Kawhi on the team with Lebron.
Which moves me to my next point. If there is a trade coming who gets dealt? Does LeBron want to deal with the headache case known as Lavar Ball? I don’t think he would want to because who wants to deal with Lavar Ball anyway? So would the Lakers have to include maybe Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and a future first round pick in order to complete the deal? I think that would get the deal done, but for the Spurs it may take a little more. But the Spurs more than likely won’t want to deal him to the Lakers where they’ll face each other four times.
The Lakers NEED to add someone else, another superstar caliber player in order for LeBron to reach his ninth straight final. A lot of people on twitter were saying how the Celtics and Lakers rivalry is back. Why? Because LeBron and Kyrie are on those teams? Golden State is still the best team in the league, followed by the Houston Rockets. Why people think LeBron going to the Lakers automatically thinks they are a championship contender is out of their minds. Golden State is still the best team in the league. They still have their same starting five they had the last two years when they won the championship.
If Kawhi doesn’t end up coming over in a trade, he probably is going to come next year when he is a free agent. So can Lebron wait a year? Because I don’t think he is going to go far in the playoffs this year if the Lakers leave the team as it is. That is also factoring in the signings of Lance Stephenson, Javale McGee and Kentavious Caldwell Pope.
There still are months to go before the season starts so we’ll see if the Lakers pull off anymore deals to try and add another superstar player for LeBron and actually take this team to the top.
