According to multiple reports, the Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo may be on his way out at Real Madrid after a nine-year run with the club that has seen them claim three consecutive Champions League titles. The Spanish TV Show “Jugones” that first broke the news that the 33-year-old will be allowed to leave this summer during the transfer window.
Ronaldo flourished his ability and skill at the World Cup in Russia helping carry Portugal out of their Group and into the Round of 16 before they were sent packing by a powerful Uruguay. Many saw the writing on the wall after Ronaldo was talking about Real Madrid in the passed tense after just defeating Liverpool to claim the title for the third straight season. When manager Zinedine Zidane shocked the football world and resigned, anything was a possibility as far as the future of the Spanish super club from Madrid.
Today multiple reports confirmed that Real Madrid are set to accept a €100 million offer from Juventus for Ronaldo and the superstar is ready to accept the move to the Italian club to become the highest-paid player in the club’s history. The deal is expected to go through barring a last minute snag in negotiations.
Personally, I thought Ronaldo would play one-to-two more seasons with Madrid before heading to the MLS to play for the new club in Miami or Los Angeles or even back to Portugal to finish his career for Sporting CP in Lisbon. Obviously, he is ready for the move now and still has plenty to bring to the table over these next few seasons to ascend his incumbent team to the top of the ranks in their country, or in Champions League play. Maybe a Premier League team such as Manchester United makes a last minute play, or Ronaldo decides to commit to Madrid, but from all reports out there, he’s on his way Turin, Italy.
Update: According to former CEO Luciano Moggi, Ronaldo has already passed his physical and has agreed to become a member of Juventus. The 80-year-old told Italian TV network Tele7Gold chimed in on that idea as well: “In my opinion, he has already signed and passed the medical examination with Juventus in Munich.” Sounds like Ronaldo is soon to be officially a member of the Italian football club and is expected to make a contract upwards of $30M per year.
