UFC Hamburg Preview – Sunday Afternoon card? I’ll take it!

The UFC octagon goes back to Deutschland on Sunday. The main event has been changed quite a bit, however, we got a banger of a fight between Light Heavyweights and it should be very exciting. Also, we get to see plenty of young and exciting prospects like Emil Meek and Marc Diakiese make the walk.

Lightweight: Marc Diakiese (-170) Vs. Nasrat Haqparast (+145)

Nasrat Haqparast is a very young fighter, I’m 22 and he is a week younger than I am. This kid moved from Germany to Montreal to train with Firas Zahabi at Tristar, Honestly probably a very good idea for the Junior. Firas is the trainer for many UFC standouts such as Joe Duffy, Joanne Calderwood, Olivier Aubin-Mercier and the Welterweight GOAT Georges St. Pierre. If Haqparast wants to expand his game, he couldn’t have picked a better place to do so. That being said, he has a tough customer in the corner against him. Marc Diakiese is an exciting British prospect also training out of a super-camp in American Top Team. Both Diakiese and Haqparast are coming off of UFC losses to Dan Hooker and Marcin Held, Respectively, both tough matchups. I believe that Diakiese will take the victory via decision. Marc Diakiese Def. Nasrat Haqparast

Heavyweight: Stefan Struve (+210) Vs. Marcin Tybura (-245)

Stefan Struve is the UFC’s great underachiever. He has all the measurables, he is 7 feet tall, in the prime of his career and has a reach advantage over anyone he fights. He just cannot put it all together against opponents who are at his level. This was displayed during his fight with Andrei Arlovski, he was hesitant to move forward and trade with the man who has been very susceptible to Knockouts in Arlovski. Tybura just faced two top 5 Heavyweights in Fabricio Werdum and Derrick Lewis, so I’m not gonna hold his losses to those two against him. Marcin Tybura Def. Stefan Struve

Light Heavyweight: Glover Teixeira (-160) Vs. Corey Anderson (+140)

Glover Teixeira is coming off of an impressive victory over Misha Cirkunov and during that fight, he was able to show that his Wrestling skills are still there and his losses to Anthony Johnson and Alexander Gustafsson haven’t hindered his skills. Corey Anderson was able to take a victory over Pat Cummins in April and stepped in to take this fight on short notice after Ilir Latifi fell out due to injury, before that he suffered two consecutive and brutal KO losses to Jimi Manuwa and Ovince St. Preux. Both of these men have been absolutely destroyed recently but I don’t see either of these guys getting knocked out in this fight. I’ll take Glover Teixeira because I don’t think he’s finished yet. Glover Teixeira Def. Corey Anderson

Light Heavyweight: Mauricio Rua (+190) Vs. Anthony Smith (-225)

Anthony Smith is a former Middleweight who moved up to 205 pounds after he was Defeated by Thiago Santos and was able to make his Light Heavyweight debut victorious when he was able to retire the former champion, Rashad Evans. Shogun Rua is currently on a three-fight winning streak with victories over Gian Villante, Corey Anderson, and Little Nog. Most people including myself would’ve thought that Rua is way past his prime, however, Rua is only 36, past his prime yes but not as far as I would’ve expected. I see these odds and think to myself, why are the oddsmakers overlooking Shogun Rua. Yes, Anthony Smith knocked out Rashad Evans, but Rashad should’ve retired months ago. Shogun isn’t nearly as close to retirement as Rashad was and Shogun has faced the Creme de la creme of opponents during his career. I think that Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will be able to take the victory. Mauricio Rua Def. Anthony Smith
