Five days. That’s how long until the MLB trade deadline is upon us. And even before we get there, we are seeing trades going left and right. So lets start with the breakdown of trades that happened today.

The Yankees made their rotation stronger by trading for A.J. Happy. Yeah the guy that was on Toronto that Mookie hit a monster grand slam against on the thirteenth pitch of the at bat. He is now a Yankee and it’s a good deal for them. Recently Happ has been struggling but prior to his mid season struggles, he was pitching good for the Jays. The Jays get back Brandon Drury and outfielder Billy Mckinney. Good for both sides as Happ is going to be a free agent after this season so the Yankees can part with him if he struggles down the stretch and the Jays got something for a guy who is thirty five. Unless Mookie hits another moon rocket off of him next weekend. Then it’s a great trade.

The Brewers added Joakim Soria and cash considerations for pitchers Kodi Medeiros and Wilber Perez. Soria is having a good season so far in which he has a 2.56 ERA and 16 saves on the season. This will help the bullpen for the Brewers in a big way. He even has a team option for next season if the Brewers want to keep him around which I think they may do since the option is for $10 million, which is keep for a closer type of player. As for the return, Medeiros has a 3.14 ERA in twenty games, fifteen started. Perez is a twenty year old who in the Dominican summer league, has a 2.01 ERA in 40.1 innings.

Moving down to Houston who made a move to help their catching situation, they traded a left handed pitching prospect named Patrick Sandoval for Martin Maldonado. Maldonado this season, has 5 home runs and 32 RBIS to go along with a .223 average. Now it’s not the best catcher in the league but compared to what they have now with Brian Mccann on the DL, it will help them out. Patrick Sandoval has a career 3.88 ERA in the minors since he was picked in the 2015 draft. He’s only 21 so he has a lot more time to develop. Right now he is in A ball. Oh and the Angels also get $250,000 dollars in international bonus pool space.

Again it’s like Christmas in July. One of the best times of the year. The Trade deadline season.

Stay tuned.
