The Boston Celtics prevailed over the Philadelphia 76ers 105-87 on the opening night of the 2018-19 NBA Season. In a rematch of last years second round playoff series, it went very much the same as that series did as the Celtics controlled most of the game on to victory. The big story for the boys in Green and White was the return of Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward from injuries last year. While neither lit the world on fire, it was great to see both on the floor.
The star of the game for the Celtics far an away was second-year stud Jayson Tatum who finished the night with 23 points including a slam dunk on Ben Simmons and a deep three-pointer. The Celtics also got a big contribution from the bench with 34 combined points from Terry Rozier, Aaron Baynes, and Marcus Morris. It was another good, but not great night for the Sixers young stars Simmons and Joel Embid, both played well but vanished down the stretch. And once again no three-point attempts from Simmons. Jaylen Brown provided the highlight of the night with a dunk on Embid that sent the 7-footer to the floor.
The Celtics will get another early season test Friday night in Toronto vs Kawhi Leonard and the Raptors.
