Good news to start your Thursday as postseason hero Nathan Eovaldi is coming back to the Red Sox. Now I’m very happy about this. The Red Sox rotation is going to be one of the strongest rotations in baseball next year. Chris Sale, David Price, Rick Porcello, Eovaldi and E-Rod? That’s a damn good starting 5. And they have depth to back them up when needed.
Now don’t get me wrong. I’m all for signing Eovaldi to a deal like this, than I am with Craig Kimbrel. There is still is a little bit of risk involved with this signing. Being that he has already had two Tommy John Surgerys. Which is the big problem with this deal. Who knows where his arm will go over the next 4 years. But to me, that’s the only problem. If he stays healthy and pitches like he did in the postseason? It’s a WIN for the Red Sox.
I don’t think the Red Sox could let Eovaldi walk to any other team. If they let that happen then everyone in Boston, the fans and the media would of given the Red Sox a lot of grief for letting him go. Because it is a fact as I said before, he is a postseason hero. He is a Boston hero. He was a big reason why the Red Sox won the World Series last year. They just couldn’t him go. Even if they may of slightly overpaid for him.
So this was a good get for the Red Sox. Now this probably makes them out on Kimbrel if he is looking for a 4-5 year deal worth $90 some million. Lets ignore the fact that his agent wants him to get a 6 year deal. So basically the whole 2018 World Series team will be back on the field next season. I think Joe Kelly will sign back, and for the question who closes games next season? I’d go with Matt Barnes to start the season if they don’t sign any other relievers. But I doubt that will happen.
