UFC 235 – Jones Vs Smith (Drago Vs. Rocky)

D99CFF51-6D75-4BAA-8EAE-843FA17BC12BI love this card so much. Young Stars such as Zabit Magomedsharipov, Cody Garbrandt, Johnny Walker and Mickey gall make the walk against grizzled veterans. Ben Askren makes his promotional debut as he meets former champion, Robbie Lawler. Dominant Welterweights clash in the Co-Main Event where Tyron Woodley meets Kamaru Usman. And in the main event, We have our David Vs. Goliath, Rocky Vs. Drago, USA Vs. Soviets in Anthony Smith Vs. Jon Jones.

Bantamweight: Cody Garbrandt (-155) Vs. Pedro Munhoz (+125)

I’m a big fan of both fighters here and I’m happy that Munhoz is finally getting some Pay-Per-View love. This is a fight that makes sense for both fighters, Garbrandt is coming off of two straight title defeats at the hands of TJ Dillashaw, while Munhoz has been working his way up the ladder and is 6-1 in his last 7. Munhoz holds a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, however, he is not one who is afraid to stand up and bang, this should play in Garbrandt’s Favor, especially in round 1 where Munhoz will initially feel the power of Cody’s punches. An interesting factoid about this fight, Munhoz and Garbrandt have had a rather friendly rapport, which is far from Garbrandt’s intense nature towards his opponents. I’m not sure if it’s because he’s recently been humbled or if the chummy Munhoz is an abnormality. Regardless, I have Cody Garbrandt winning. Cody Garbrandt Def. Pedro Munhoz

Welterweight: Robbie Lawler (+225) Vs. Ben Askren (-265)

Finally, Ben Askren makes a walk in the UFC, praise the MMA Gods, thank Uncle Dana for not being a spiteful SOB and thank One Championship for Inventing the Cross-Promotional Trade. “Funky” Ben Askren is arguably the best fighter to never make the walk in the UFC and on Friday we will finally see it happen. Former champion Robbie Lawler is no slouch for a first UFC fight. It’s been a short while since we’ve seen Robbie fight because of booking problems and a short self-imposed break. Since losing the belt, Lawler has gone 1-1, taking a UD victory over Donald Cerrone, while also taking a UD defeat at the hands of Rafael Dos Anjos. Now, I’ve only actually seen one Ben Askren fight, and that was his TKO victory over Andrey Koreshkov. Usually, I don’t do this but I’m betting solely on reputation as Askren has no UFC experience. Ben Askren Def. Robbie Lawler

Welterweight Championship: Tyron Woodley (-165) Vs. Kamaru Usman (+135)

Kamaru Usman is undefeated in UFC Competition. He has faced numerous prospects as well as two very established names in Rafael Dos Anjos and Demian Maia. Tyron Woodley silenced all his critics in his last fight where he defeated Darren Till by second-round Submission after dropping Till with a quick power punch. These two have faced a lot of criticism in their careers with both being accused of not pushing the action and having an overall “Boring” Style. This fight should not garner negative attention for either as their both extremely great wrestlers and they’re gonna want to keep the fight standing. I think Tyron Woodley will take the victory as he has been more motivated than ever to keep the belt as he knows that he’s not getting another shot at the belt if he loses it. Tyron Woodley Def. Kamaru Usman

Light Heavyweight Championship: Jon Jones (-850) Vs. Anthony Smith (+525)

Here it is David Vs. Goliath, Rocky Vs. Drago, Jones Vs. Smith. Anthony Smith is the grizzled veteran who has really stepped into his own since moving up to the Light-Heavyweight Division. At LHW he has had three straight stoppage victories over Rashad Evans, Shogun Rua, and Volkan Oezdemir and has looked great in each of them before the finish came. He faces arguably the greatest fighter of all time in the Troubled Jon “Bones” Jones. Jones recently had a rematch against Alexander Gustafsson where he looked incredible and finished the Swede in the third round. Something inside me tells me that this fight is going to be a slugfest, Rivaling Jones’ first fight with Gustafsson. I think Jon Jones will win by either a late stoppage or decision but I have a feeling that it’s gonna be a can’t miss fight. Jon Jones Def. Anthony Smith
