The PLAYERS Championship Preview

Among the many changes for the PGA Tour in the 2019 season is moving their flagship event back to May. The Players Championship was contested in March from it’s founding in 1975-2006. When the FedEx Cup playoff format was introduced 12 years ago, the tournament was moved to Mothers Day weekend in May. 144 players from 25 countries will tee it up on Pete Dye’s TPC Sawgrass masterpiece in Ponte Vedra Beach Florida. The course known for its famous final three holes played around and over nothing but water. Among those 144 players, 11 are past champions of the event combining for 12 victories. Tiger Woods will play after pulling out of last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational with a neck strain he’s the only player in the field to have won this event more than once (2001, 2013).

Betting Info
Favorite: Dustin Johnson +1200
Best Bet: Marc Leishman +4000
Leishman has not played his best golf this year, but he always seems to rise to the occasion on the games biggest stages, and his game really fits TPC Sawgrass. He’s tremendous value at +4000
Worst Bet: Sergio Garcia +2500
Garcia has played the worst golf of his career since slipping on the Green Jacket nearly two years ago. And as we saw earlier this year, he’s still got a temper tantrum in him
Long-shot: Stewart Cink +20000

My Picks
Winner: Bryson Dechambeau +1800
Dechambeau, despite not finding the winners circle this year, has played some very good golf and has a game that fits TPC Sawgrass well. I like him to win this weekend.
Contender: Tommy Fleetwood +2500
Another guy who rises to the occasion on the games biggest stages. Don’t like him to win per say, but I’d be stunned if he wasn’t there with a chance to on Sunday.
Dark Horse: Kevin Na +15000
Na has a very good history at this course, despite never winning, he has two top fives and four top tens.
