Action Packed Main Event in Canadian Capital – UFC Ottawa Preview

The Beautiful Capital City of Canada hosts this UFC fight night, which is headlined by Lightweight Contenders Al Iaquinta and Donald Cerrone. These two come in riding differing waves of momentum. Donald Cerrone is widely regarded as one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC who stays more active in competition than anyone else. Iaquinta is known as a man who stepped up on super short notice to face the best in the world (Khabib) and gained the respect of the MMA community for going the full five rounds. Other than the Main Event there are two other High Profile Fights. A Featherweight battle between Cub Swanson and Shane Burgos, and a Middleweight Duel between Elias Theodorou and Derek Brunson.

Featherweight: Shane Burgos (-170) Vs. Cub Swanson (+140)

“Killer” Cub Swanson has lost his last three fights, but they were to top level competition in Brian Ortega, Frankie Edgar and Renato Moicano so it’s not like he is losing to tomato cans. Cub still definitely has the skills to take out most Featherweights, and I believe that Shane Burgos is gonna be one of those Featherweights he can handle. It wasn’t long ago when Burgos was cold-clocked by Calvin Kattar and he only has a win over the overmatched Kurt Holobaugh since then. If Swanson loses here, I think that he’ll be done as an MMA Fighter and will move on to other ventures, I really hope that doesn’t happen. Cub Swanson Def. Shane Burgos

Middleweight: Derek Brunson (-115) Vs. Elias Theodorou (-115)

We’ve seen time and time again the story of Derek Brunson losing to top competition only to wreck the next person in front of him. After losing to Future Champion Robert Whittaker, he defeated Anderson Silva (I mean, not officially, but come on watch the fight) then knocked Dan Kelly into the outback. Elias Theodorou is similar to Floyd Mayweather, not in skill, but in the fact that he is a point fighter of his 8 UFC wins, 6 have been by decision including his last five. I believe this will be the first time Theodorou gets stopped as a professional as Derek Brunson is easily the most skilled fighter he has faced. Derek Brunson Def. Elias Theodorou

Lightweight: Al Iaquinta (-125) Vs. Donald Cerrone (-105)

This fight is just going to be a good-old-fashioned MMA Fight. Two well rounded fighters with similar styles trying to best the other. Raging Al Iaquinta is coming off of an upset win over Kevin Lee and looked great in that bout. It seems like the Khabib fight may have made Raging Al better as not many people, including myself gave Al a chance. Donald Cerrone is my favorite fighter to watch, he fights seemingly every month and his well rounded game makes it hard to predict where the fight is going to go. I feel as if the pressure from Al Iaquinta will not do him any good in this fight as Cerrone has seen everything an opponent has to offer inside the octagon and really just needs to rely on his precision to try and take him out early. I believe that Al will win the early rounds but Cerrone will come back and make a fight out of it, Al Iaquinta by close decision. Al Iaquinta Def. Donald Cerrone
